Annual General Meeting, Thursday 7 June 2012
Chairman's Report

MWNWA continue to work in partnership with Warwickshire Police and colleagues within Warwickshire County and District Councils.

We bade farewell to Martyn Stephens who has moved to a new position in the North of the County. We welcomed Abdul Rahim who now works alongside Paul Ledden.

PARTNERSHIP ACTIVITIES

One partnership initiative is what I call the "doorstep" initiative. The objective is to invite more people to sign up to receive police messages and join Neighbourhood Watch. The uptake has been encouraging, most people we have spoken to on their doorstep have signed up.

At 7am on a cold December morning, to help combat a spate of thefts from cars, we met with commuters parking in the Station Approach car park to remind them to not leave anything visible in their cars. This was followed by a similar event, one evening just before Christmas, in the Royal Priors.

We borrowed the SpeedAware equipment and conducted sessions in Lillington Road by the junctions with Park Road and Aldwick Close.

Junior Neighbourhood Watch has now been completed in five schools: Lillington Primary, Milverton, Brookhurst, Telford and St. Paul’s.

BURGLARIES

Burglaries are on the increase. The Community Safety Team, have been handing out crime prevention material to properties adjacent where a burglary has taken place. The Community Safety Team has asked MWNWA for help. We have agreed that a message be sent out, via the CAPS system, to all members in the vicinity of a burglary, asking for volunteers to distribute crime prevention material to their neighbours.

REPRESENTATION

MWNWA have representatives at meetings of Warwickshire Neighbourhood Watch Association Common Concerns "Working Group", Warwickshire Neighbourhood Watch Association Board and National Neighbourhood Watch.

In March, Alan Turner, Lizzie Clarke and I attended the Warwickshire Race Equality Partnership (WREP), Warwick and Stratford District Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) Consultation Forum.
